It also enables you to pinpoint specific limbs manually and have varied crippling effects on the enemy. Just Cause 2 also has an adaptive difficulty system, gradually scaling the difficulty as the player does more in the game. The game takes place on the fictional island of Panau, situated in the Malay Archipelago. Does the faction I align with towards the end of the game change the outcome of the story at all (or, for that matter, the resulting Mercenary Mode)? Or does it simply change the soldiers who fight. In Mercs 1 all four factions would be out to get eachother (or would work together in some instances) in Mercs 2, the PLAV hated the UP and the Chinese hated the Americans, and that was it. You couldn't interplay with the factions (PLAV and China going against US and UP) as you could in the first game.
If it's anything like Mercs 2, it'll be stupid. In Mercs 2, anything done to another faction totally ruined your game, making you miss missions and lose vehicles from the faction you ticked off. Hopefully it won't affect the black market.I actually rather liked the whole 'playing factions against eachother' thing. It gave it a bit more challenge and would make you actually sympathize (or hate) specific factions. Though in Mercs 2 it was a little dumbed down from Mercs 1.
But I digress. About the factions. Uh bad newsTake the factions as an example.
There are three on the islands: the Ular Boys (who want to kick all 'foreign devils' out of Panau and want no Western influence why they'll still hire Rico we have no idea), the Reapers (a revolutionary army looking to 'break the shackles of oppression') and the Roaches (another hard-ass crew that will do what it takes to achieve their goals). Now, you'd think Avalanche would make an effort to really differentiate between them, but they might as well just be clones of one another for all the practical difference it makes. You're still taking on somewhat generic missions and you're still blowing up anything owned by the government.
As if to really drive home how little difference the faction makes to the gameplay, the first mission for each after you sign on requires you to capture a stronghold for the faction, and is basically the same thing three times in a row.In each one you get choppered in and dropped off with a squad of faction members. You shoot anything that moves until you get to the gates of the compound, which are shut. Your squad mates tell you you're the only one that can open them so you grapple inside and open the gates. You shoot everything that moves before reaching a terminal that one of the faction members has to hack to gain control of the facility. There's a mounted gun right next to it, which you man and use to defeat a couple of waves of enemy soldiers, one or two armoured vehicles, then a helicopter with the compound's commander inside. Mission accomplished. Times. The whole article made me wanna cry.I just knew this would happen!Factions = a major letdown.I just hope we can atleast shoot the fckrs.
Well, I really like to work for factions instead for just myself (thats why I didnt like gta 4 story very much cause I did not belong to any faction). What I dont like is that if you first do a mission for the Reapers wich objective is to destroy for the Roaches, and then when you are done you do a mission for the Roaches wich objective is to destroy for the Reapers you dont get that 'Nationalist' feeling cause you do not belong to any of the factions, you just work for both of them. Hope it wont be that way. In just cause 1 I did think like this 'I liberate towns and cities for the Guerrilla and work for the Rioja to destroy the goverments own drug cartel' and the Guerrilla and Rioja where both allied wich eachother. I will probably work for all the factions in Just Cause 2 sooner or later but it will feel strange to destroy for the friends I just helped. Quick Navigation.
