Windows 7 Profile: Copy To Button Grayed Out May 10, 2009I know this is a Vista forum, but I do not see any Windows 7 forums. This has carried through a number of recent builds of Win7 and now is in the RC, 7100 build. Not sure if this is a change in functionality or a bug.

If you want to copy the profile of a local user, you can login to the PC (Vista and earlier) as the local Administrator, go to System Properties User Profiles, choose a user's profile, then click the Copy To button to copy that profile to another profile. In Win7, the Copy To button is grayed out when you choose another user's profile. All you can choose from is Change Type or Delete.Similar Messages:.ADVERTISEMENTMar 3, 2010One of the small networks I manage had a Win2k DC that crashed. We replaced it with a 2008 SBS & since most of the clients were XP, I was able to join computers to the new domain & copy the profiles from the old location to the new location.

That was until I got to the Vista laptop. On this computer, the profile shows as 'Unknown' & the 'copy to' option is grayed out.I am currently copying the contents of the C:Usersusername folder to the C:Usersuser.newdomain folder. Will this be all I need? Is there an easier way? Also, under system propertiesuser profiles that Unknown profile shows to be 42.9 GB, but the folder I am copying is only 19.7 GB.

Why such a huge difference? Aug 12, 2008I tried to copy a profile to another folder by vbscript, but folder Documents not copy complete. I now this forum not write or speak language vbscript but i search google, etc.etc and not have solution for this problem. My code Vbscript.vbsCode:dim wshell, strusername, filesysConst OverwriteExisting = TRUESet WshShell = CreateObject('WScript.Shell')Set WshEnv = WshShell.Environment('SYSTEM').

Apr 23, 2009I have always put the 'Copy' and 'Paste' buttons on my toolbar for quick access. Now, in Vista, I can't even find a button for either function.

How do I get these buttons/icons back into my Toolbars? Now I have to actually go to the 'Edit' Menu, or use the Right-Mouse Button Menu, to do what used to be a simple one-click operation. Drag-and-Drop has never worked well. Sometimes it will work and other times it seems to just drop the files wherever it wants.

Then I have to go on a manual search to recover them. What happened to the ability to 'Customize' the Toolbars? The Customizing of Toolbars has been removed from Vista, except for a 'Limited' selection, which someone decided to leave available. May 18, 2008My OS is Windows Vista Business and I am attempting to disable the auto startup of a program. I located the program in Windows Defender, Category: Startup Programs but all options to 'Remove, Disable and Enable' are grayed out. I also noticed the majority though not all auto startup programs in the Startup Category are grayed out. What other course of action may I take to disable the unneeded auto startup of unnecessary programs?

Also, my inquiry pertains specifically to an HP Digital Camera software. Feb 16, 2009I am having issues with Vista. I accidently turned off the computer while it was updating with Windows Update. Now, when I try to turn it on again, the only issue is the Windows Profile screen where you log in to your account. There is nothing showing on the screen instead. The mouse works alright. I can move around on the screen.

May 10, 2008I am trying to send a copy of the screen that I am currently looking at in an email. What I do is I hit my prt screen button then try to paste it in my email, but it never works. I know this works with XP, because I have XP at work and I do it all the time. Apr 2, 2009A few days ago, Windows Update Automatic updates installed an update on my computer called:Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista (KB940157)When I restarted my computer after this update I tried to log on and got this message:The user profile service has failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.I fixed this by booting into the F8 restore options on my Dell Laptop and used system restore to repair the problemToday Windows Update Installed that same update again and the same problem arose which I again fixed with system restore.Does anyone have any thoughts on this, like why should this update be causing my User Profile not to load?Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit May 15, 2010What do I do if my log on is incorrect and grayed out and I am unable to change it back to Local Service from Network Service? Mar 23, 2008Private network. In network and sharing center I have network discovery, file sharing, print sharing, public sharing and printer sharing all turned on.

When I try to share a disk the sharing option is grayed out same with the printer. What am I overlooking? Mar 23, 2008I just noticed that everything under the HP printer's properties is grayed out and so I cannot change anything.

I thought ownership/privileges could be the cause of my not being able to print from this test VISTA machine over my LAN to the HP AIO printer which is connected directly via USB on my XP machine. But I can't change anything - I notice other things (e.g. Share name) are grayed out also preventing change. At the very least I want to be able to regain control of all this.

Remember - I can print in reverse over my LAN (using another printer). That is, from my XP machine to the EPSON printer connected to this test VISTA machine.

I seem to be able to access and change files/folders at will from each machine to the other - so I feel I must have my LAN set up at least nearly correctly. Yes, I have turned User Account Control off. Mar 13, 2009Vista, Home Premium, Windows Mail all of a sudden the button to Save Attachments under the Paperclip is greyed out for images such as.jpg I can see the image numbers/names listed but all in grey. I can still save them by rightclicking them in the preview pane but for a mail containing many pics that is rather cumbersome. For other attachment such as movies, powerpoints etc. The Save Button is NOT greyed out and works fine for quick saving.

Mar 23, 2008When writing an email, clicking on insert drops down various choices, but Signature & Business card are grayed out. Does anyone know how to use this feature? It was easy to set up in Outlook Express. Feb 19, 2009At random points, my Volume and Network icons disappear from the Notification Area and when I try to restore them from the Properties menu, they're grayed out.

The policy registry entries in both HKLM and HKCU don't exist. A simple log out/log in typically restores them, but is usually too much of a nuisance to bother doing. Apr 22, 2008MS Vista Home Premium I am trying to use MS paint and the 'A' tool on the tool bar is grayed out and not clickable. Do I have to pay to use this tool? Also if I go to view the 'Text Toolbar' option is checked but again it is grayed out. I am no expert on windows but I thought paint was included with the OS.

PS Don't bother telling me that some other program is better, I just need to plan my flower garden and MS paint is fine for that. Jun 26, 2009Contact has a Vista business laptop that until recently when you went into Windows Explorer to look at pictures you can press the email button and it would prepare an email in their email client Mozilla Thunderbird with the image as a file attachment. However recently this has changed back to Microsoft Outlook for no particular reason. Checked all the defaults and they all point to Thunderbird still being the default program for email. Under file associations, have checked that for protocols, SENDTO is set to Thunderbird. However the 'E-mail' button still now brings up Outlook. How can I change this back.

It's very frustrating and I've played around for a good long while. Jan 28, 2010i just bought LOGITECH x-530 5.1 Speaker system. When i go to 'Realtek HD Audio manager' and choose '5.1 speaker' the 'rear pair' is grayed out! Here is a picture; if i change it to 7.1. Then the 'rear pair' will appear and i will be able to preform the test and hear sound. B-U-T - when i will play movies.

(divx, mkx, bluray. Ect'.) i don't hear the people talking. It's like the wrong sound configuration information goes to the speakers.

It will seem the people talking coms from the sub-woofer. And again really really dim.+ the rear speakers will work but very low (even when i put it on full volume). Any idea how to set up correctly the sound? So even if i am on 7.1. The sound will go to the speakers as 5.1 and send the right information to each speaker?

I have a DFI LanParty X58-T3H6 motherboard and a VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 Video card with HD audio. I have an HDMI cable going to my Sony AV receiver and all I get is Stereo Audio. Under properties all that is offered is Stereo speakers. Reacao em cadeia confianca download. Surround Sound is shown as an option but it is grayed out and not selectable.

All drivers are up to date as of two days ago, and I have the on-board sound of the motherboard disabled in its BIOS.Other HDMI devices, such as my XBOX 360, do surround sound through the Sony AV receiver. VisionTek support told me to install the HDMI RealTek driver, but that's all the help they've been able to give me.

Jun 27, 2009I've had this problem before, but it went away when I installed the latest service pack update. I got it again about a week ago, though, and there were no new service packs to install, so I'm not quite sure how to go about fixing it. The message at the bottom of the screen is: 'Build 6002, This copy of Windows is not genuine.' I also get a pop-up box saying 'you may be a victim of product counterfitting' when I start up my computer.I tried looking at some of the other threads here relating to this subject, but they didn't seem to work for me. I've tried two main solutions so far, neither of which worked. The first was to restore the licensing file through the cmd prompt, then rebooting twice (found that solution THIS COPY OF WINDOWS IS NOT GENUINE - WHY?

There), the second was to type slui.exe 4 into the search bar and hope for a telephone number to activate by phone, which seems to work for some people. I can't get the telephone number to show up, though.

It just gives me the screen to buy a new product key online, try a different one, or a link to the Help box on validation. May 1, 2008My old Windows XP PC died months ago (motherboard problems) and so I took out the hard drive (which still functions fine) and put it in my new PC, but I can't seem to copy any of my files in the My Documents folder from the old drive to my newer larger drive. I've had this drive in here for the last several months and have had no problems writing other files to this 'older' drive (250 gig Maxtor 16mb cache, 7,200RPM drive (btw it's only a year old), but when I try to copy files to another drive I get the following error message: 'You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this file.' This only happens with files that are in the My Documents folder.

My current login has administrator rights, so I'm thinking some how this has something to do with this drive being from a different computer's installation of XP. Dec 15, 2008Almost every time I turn on my laptop and log into my account a screen comes up saying something along the lines of Thank You For Validating Windows. This takes up the whole screen and I cannot exit unless I press OK. After my desktop is fully loaded a message comes up saying that Windows Aero has stopped working, you may be a victim of counterfeiting. There is then a link which takes me to Genuine Microsoft Software. I then run the validation test and pass.

Also sometimes there is a message in white writing in the corner of my desktop which says:Windows Vista (TM)Build 6001This copy of Windows is not genuine. My Vista Ultimate is 100% genuine. Apr 10, 2008Is it valid to install my Windows Vista Ultimate copy to Virtual PC 2007 on the same computer for testing several features of the OS If it is valid, do i have to activete this copy again?

May 23, 2009I've copied and pasted into my email many times. Now when I attempt this, the whole email program shuts down. I can copy and paste from another email in the program, but if I try to from a text doc or Word doc etc.

The email program shuts down and I lose everything that was in the particular email I was writing. Feb 26, 2009in the bottom right hand corner.

I would like to know how I can print a hard copy of my Windows Contacts. Mar 23, 2008Is there any way to send a blind copy (bc or bcc) in Windows Mail? Aug 7, 2009Vaio Laptop that was in desperate need of a wipe and reinstall. Unfortunately she didn't know where her Vaio's copy of Windows Vista Premium was. While I was at my campus bookstore, I asked them if they had a copy of just the media itself as I already had my sister's Vaio license. They sold me a copy of the Ultimate version for $20 or $40 dollars, I don't remember how much exactly.

I knew that the Ultimate version had all the versions, including the Premium version my sister had a license for. I used Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to look up her license which I e-mailed to myself.

I reinstalled Vista which installed as the Premium version, just as I expected. Five to six hours later I had everything set up. I thought everything was activated and working just fine. I was wrong. And now a week later, my sister brings me her laptop and complains herbackground is gone.

Copy windows profile to another user

The operating system had reverted itself to its limited 'Illegal State'. Frustrated and not wanting to spend another five hours redoing it all, I tried using the license that came on the back of the CD that I got at my campus bookstore which Windows refused. It won't allow me to upgrade to Ultimate either. What is my best solution at this point? Will Microsoft support me in this?

Can I get a disc replacement from Vaio? The last thing we want to do is have to buy another license. I don't know if if its okay to use the license that came on the back of my Ultimate disc either.
