I am getting ready to wire my house so that I can have wired and wireless internet. I am going this route because I am having major issues with the equipment I was provided with. I have 2 modems in my house that were supplied by Brighthouse.
1 is for my internet which is the Motorola 6580 the other is for my phone not sure what model that is. That being said lately my modem for internet has been dropping all signals including wired. I have been through at least 4 modems in the past 2 years. So I decided that I want to buy my own modem. I have looking at Motorola 6141 and the 6183. I don't want a combo unit.
Like I said I'm wiring my house for wired connections. I pay for faster Internet (not sure the speed) but what I am getting is snail speed it seems like (my cellphone is faster).

Anyway Is the router Arris offers which is new any good? Its an AC1750. It seems like a good router. Also can anyone recommend a good 10/100/1000 ethernet switch? Any comments or suggestions? The four channels at -12dBmV might be part of the problem. It could also be fluctuating to the point where it causes it to downgrade on those channels. The Direct Forum is generally a pretty good place to go to get your issue resolved.
They are higher level techs there who tend to be more competent. So they should get you fixed by sending out someone who knows what they are doing.I do suggest monitoring your connection (signal levels) every now and then though so you can see yourself where there is a problem because as said sometimes the techs and csrs you get are lacking. Now you know how to do that. Well her's an update on the internet issue I was having. After chatting with Gary it was determined that I had a modem issue.
I didn't want to believe it but sure enough that was it. Gary had a technician scheduled the next day.
Turns out they sent 2 techs out to my house. Need less to say it was determined my motorola/arris 6580 modem was a first gen unit and it would not accept the updates it was being sent. John the tech they sent told me he has seen issues with first gen modems before. After chatting with him for a while I was offered 2 options.
1 was he could install another 6580 or install an echo modem. I wasnt sure about it but the offer I was given really peaked my curiosity. So here we are at week #2 and I am not having any issues whatsoever. And my internet is no superfast.I am also enjoying the 5g that this modem has for my cellphones and tablets. My computers are doing well on the wired connections. I will be getting the access points I was told about very soon. I am going to keep brighthouse echo.
Well worth the price. Many thanks to Gary and John the tech I worked with. You guys are awesome. Said by:I am getting ready to wire my house so that I can have wired and wireless internet.
